Picture Helps Adolescent Child

Sometimes it’s the little things we take for granted that make a big difference in a child’s life. It is often said, “a picture paints a thousand words.” Everyone has their own idea what this statement means to them but do you ever wonder what it would mean to someone that had never seen a picture of themselves?

In my various careers, I was fortunate enough to have the privilege of working with adolescent children. Let me clarify this: emotionally disturbed adolescent children. The pay was terrible, the hours were horrible but the rewards are ever lasting.

We were always trying to find another approach to work with the children at the center. Sometimes it would be another activity or experience. One of the other counselors and I had some previous experience with photography (both photographing and developing). We put a proposal together to teach an elective in photography from beginning to end. It was accepted and we began our course. Towards the completion of the course, we had quite a collection of black & white photography. We put a collage of these photos together and put them on display.

Among the photos was the photo of John (name changed for privacy). He was on one of our horses in our therapeutic horseback riding program. John was beaming from ear to ear.

With all of our photos, John’s picture didn’t stand out that much to me. The next day after the display went up, John’s therapist came up to me and commented about that particular picture. Now, 16 or 17 years later, that is the only picture I can still see vividly in my mind from the entire display. If a therapist ask you if you could print another copy of a photo of their 11 year old client because the child had never seen or had a photo of themselves before, You Remember That Picture!

This article isn’t about John and it isn’t about pictures. It is about asking you to become a Humanitarian Ambassador. It’s about reaching out to children like John and giving them a precious gift. I could share story after story after story after story of something so slight that touched a child’s life while working with these children. You could remember something so slight that someone did for you that reached down and touched you with such joy and kindness. We have children all over the world that need our help.

The Mission of the Environmental Action Network is to bring people together to become informed regarding Humanitarian needs and Environmental concerns. We also desire to empower you with financial resources to meet these challenges with a strong base of financial strength. We chose the area of network marketing as a means to assist this to happen. Please stay in touch and stay informed.

Global Warming, Fighting for Survival

I’m always looking for more information on Global Warming to share. It is such a big concept and so many people don’t think they can do anything about it. The thought that “our Government” needs to do something or “Someone” needs to DO SOMETHING is just so amazing to me. WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN THIS! ! ! We all have to be involved in the ultimate result because we all are involved in the problem. We will be ultimately responsible for our environment and for appropriate Environmental Action.

As we begin to understand more about the affects we have on our planet, the scientists are beginning to be heard. They have been shouting this information to us for some time now but we were not prepared to listen. We also thought it was someone else’s responsibility. When we take a deep look inside ourselves, we will find the truth. We will not always like what we find but we will find the truth.

The TRUTH is that we are responsible for our own actions. The TRUTH is that we will be responsible for the outcome of our crisis situation. The TRUTH is that if we do NOTHING, we WILL be responsible for the Extinction of approximately 50% of the animal species on Earth today. The TRUTH is that if we do not get involved, many of our coastal areas (where much of our population centers are) will be under water as glaciers and the polar ice caps melt.

I found an interesting article in the Environmental News Network website titled: “The Earth May Be at Warmest Point in One Million Years.” Here is some interesting information from that article:

EL NINO AND GLOBAL WARMING
Overall, Earth is within 1.8 degrees F of its highest temperature levels in the past million years, Hansen and the others wrote. They noted a recent steep rise in average temperatures, with global surface temperatures increasing about 0.4 degrees F for each of the last three decades.

Scientists attribute this rise to human activities, notably the release into the atmosphere of greenhouse gases -- notably carbon dioxide -- which let in sunlight and trap its heat like the glass walls of a greenhouse.

Human-caused global warming influences El Ninos much as it sways tropical storms, the scientists wrote.

"The effect on frequency of either phenomenon is unclear, depending on many factors, but the intensity of the most powerful events is likely to increase as greenhouse gases increase," they wrote. "Slowing the growth rate of greenhouse gases should diminish the probability of both super El Ninos and the most intense tropical storms."

Weak El Nino conditions were present this month in the tropical Pacific, and could strengthen to a moderate event by winter, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which monitors the phenomenon.

In the United States, private forecaster WSI Corp. predicted warmer-than-normal weather over the Northeast and Midwest for the rest of this year, spelling sluggish energy demand for the start of the heating season.

The warm outlook, after the mildest winter on record last year, is due to uncertainty over the El Nino -- a warming of Pacific waters around the equator that can drive weather patterns around the globe, WSI Corp. said.

Oil Drilling in the Artic

We have a lot of alternative energy resources today but we are still relying on oil for our main source of energy. Our fear of being without is stronger than our sense of reason.

This is what we are facing with the issue of Oil Drilling in the Artic. This is a classic battle of the Environmentalist against the Oil Industry. The Oil Industry is looking for profits at the risk of the fragile Artic Environment.

A lot of the concerns that the oil drilling supporters are voicing such as low numbers of visitors are not the critical issue. What is critical is for us to protect not only our wild lands but also our total environment.

There are a lot of alternatives to dependence on oil for our energy needs but I also caution we have to tread lightly with some of these as well. What ever we look at, we have to look at the ramifications that can affect the environment. The purpose of The Environmental Action Network is to help more people become informed and to take action. We will often reference back to the biggest problem we face right now and that is Global Warming. We can no longer tolerate our actions based on degrees of damage that is permissible by law. We have to focus on eliminating the damages that we are doing and start correcting our past mistakes. In regards to this, does it really make sense to be Drilling for Oil in the Artic?

We have to look at the possibility of damaging the environment and we also have to take into consideration the reality that we have to move away from the use of oil due to the damages the emissions cause.

Asking the Oil Industry their opinion on this matter would be similar to asking the Tobacco Industry 30 years ago about the dangers of smoking. Due to Hurricane Katrina, the Oil Industry turned record profits when gas supplies were suppose to be down. I don’t need to comment further on this matter except to reference it to the fact that an industry such as the Oil Industry will not be very willing to let go of the enormous financial strength it has. Unfortunately, they are not doing the responsible thing by taking their resources and becoming the leader in transferring our use of oil for our energy resources to the development of the alternative energy resources that we already have available.

Humanitarian Ambassador Special- Death Comes to Toby's Dream

There is a lot to be said of one's life and what one accomplished in their limited time. You will remember when your mother or father died or a sister or brother. You will also remember when close friends and other relatives die. Hopefully, you will remember when those others that influenced your life die.

What is it about dieing that is so hard to take. After all, we are only here for a short time anyway. What about living and what you are doing with your life. Writing this today is special to me because I lost a good friend that I have known not for 21 years and I have had the pleasure of taking care of for the last 11 1/2 years. I have seen her turn some hearts around in some confused, angry, lost and undervalued children.

As a Humanitarian Ambassador, it is my goal to help others physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially and above all, to be able to lead others to becoming informed and becoming Humanitarian Ambassadors.

It was 36 years ago that I was first introduced to one of these messengers of good will that was so much like my friend that I recently lost. I have seen a lot of changes brought about by the soothing that they give people, all people especially children.

The purpose of the Environmental Action Network is to bring you tidbits of information on Humanitarian and Environmental issues and concerns. The biggest Environmental concern that I feel we are faced with right now is Global Warming. Regarding, the biggest Humanitarian concern right now, it isn't quite that simple. We can look at poverty, starvation, crime, medical concerns, and you name it. If someone has cancer, how can you tell them you feel medical research isn't as important as providing adequate water supply in another country? When we look at Global Warming, we have to look at probably 100 different factors that affect this issue and if we all do our part that affect this issue, we can all be involved in solving the problem. When we look at these other concerns that affect Humanitarian issues, if we could tie it all together and do our individual pieces, I guess we could call it being concerned jointly for our fellow on earth inhabitants.

When you look at different cultures around the world, you will see a different regard for different issue. I have often made comments about other people having a different regard for life than I do or than my culture does. This could be a mistake on my part especially if this is taken out of context. If I were to rephrase it, I guess I would have to look at what the values of life are and what the values of death are. We could also use the term afterlife. Some cultures have a high regard for afterlife that it appears that their regard for life isn't crucial. But if you look a little deeper, they hold a high regard with what they have done in the time they are here and accomplishment of great things is more important than living.

So many do not get the chance to shine. When I'm gone, I want to be remembered for caring for others, caring for the environment and pulling people into the role for Humanitarian and Environmental missions. Like my friend, Baby, she cared for and made a difference in the lives of the ones she touched.

Baby was one of those gentle giants that no one can really explain how our interrelation with is so greatly effected. Baby was a part of the Toby’s Dream Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program. She weighed 1,000 pounds and she gave the most timid of children confidence that others would not have seen otherwise. Yes, Baby was a horse. This article is no joke either. Just as Baby was real, her personality was real and she calmed everyone she came in touch with. There are 2 quotes that I will remember for my lifetime.
1. The outside of a horse is good for the inside of man.
2. (From Winston Churchill) No man has ever been hurt by riding horses only by owning horses or backing horses, unless you take a fall at a full gallop, which is not a bad way to die.

Please take the opportunity to be like a horse and calm those around you.

Immigrants Reduce Poverty

In an article released today by the Associated Press, a report from the United Nations shows that Female immigrants tend to send more money home to relatives than their male counterparts. The female immigrants tend to make less money but they will also send everything above their basic needs.

The report looks at the impact the female immigrants have on the economy of their country of origin. It is estimated that there are 95 million women that are immigrants throughout the world. These immigrants are reducing poverty in their home countries and providing the necessary financial support for their families at home. Many of them are providing financial support for older children at home so they could attend to their studies and be able to graduate from the universities.

You can read the article entitled, “Female immigrants earn less than men but send home more money” by visiting this link: http://www.dailybulletin.com/business/ci_4332153

For the full report entitled, “A Passage of Hope, Women and Migration”, you can visit this link: http://www.unfpa.org/swp/2006/english/introduction.html

The report looks at many aspects of migration. It looks at the history of migration as well as the various types of migration. It looks at aspects of migration such as health issues of the migrants, issues for female migrants and impact of migration.

There are a lot of issues apparently but what we need to realize is economically, immigration is a factor for the both counties, the country of origin and the receiving country. As discussed above, especially in relations to the female immigrant, there is a major difference being made economically for the country of origin. These immigrants are sending money home in the $billions of dollars according to The World Bank. The money is being spent, not only on the necessities but also to change the face of poverty. Mothers are making sacrifices not only regarding living on as little as possible and occasionally eating in the soup lines, but they are not home to see their children grow up. They are not in their homeland and many of them have their families back in their home country. They are providing everything they can for their families without regard for themselves.

These stories need to be told to stress the need to work together. The Environmental Action Network strives to keep you informed of these issues that affect us and those around us from either Humanitarian or Environmental concerns or both. We invite you to visit our marketing Blog as well. We are pulling the resources of network marketing to aide us with this mission. Alternative Fuels - Cutting Driving Costs

There is more research and production of Biofuels and Biodiesel these days. Change is often slow but it will come.

According to Michael Hill (Associated Press), there is a couple in New York making their rounds to “fuel up” their vehicle. Of course, their rounds are in some unlikely places to “fuel up” your vehicle. Their fuel is FREE for the asking! They pull up to the back door of restaurants that serve deep fried food. Yes, I said they “fuel up” at restaurants! No, not themselves but there VEHICLE!

Now, the Floeser’s did have to retro-fit their car to use the vegetable oil but there is biofuel and biodiesel production that people do not have to modify their vehicles. With the new alternative fuels development and production, we would be able to receive some relief from the strain of dependency on foreign oil. For the Floeser’s, they still have to purchase some petroleum fuel for their vehicle but the majority of their fuel is “FREE”. Read more about Joe and Barbara Floeser’s vehicle, the “Greased Lightning”. (What It Takes to Drive on Vegetable Power http://enn.com/today.html?id=11249 )

Oil Crisis? Here comes the Biofuels Market

With the dependency on oil, comes the concerns over availability, national security the ENVIRONMENT and the economy. I’m stressing the Environment since that is the focus for our program. We always look at National Security in matters such as this because we are fuel based, period. The availability is what it is but it will affect the economy. (Law of Supply and Demand: The smaller the supply, the higher the demand.) Our focus is squarely on the Environment since we are becoming aware of the fact that we do not have too long on this planet if GLOBAL WARMING continues unchecked.

Let’s look at this issue as it relates to the Biofuels Market. The alternative fuels market and alternative energy resources markets have taken a back seat to the oil industry. For a while during the last century, more and more resources have been placed on oil exploration. (I remember writing papers in college in the 70’s about alternative fuel resources. What happened to this field during the last 30 years?) Why have we avoided the inevitable issues and are now faced with the “oil crisis”?

The Biofuels Market is just in its infancy. There are new plants springing up in the United States that are designed to turn corn into fuel and some new companies are getting geared up to turn other biowastes into fuels as well. The United States is looked upon as a leader in technology but there was no clear decisions to develop these technologies until we realized how serious our energy crisis is becoming. This industry is moving forward at a rapid rate due to the economic crisis we face but the industry was ignored for the Environmental crisis that we have been warned as rapidly approaching.

With our advancement in technology, we could certainly be further into this industry than we currently are. As a comparison, if you look at the industry in Brazil, they have a very progressive biofuels industry. They used sugar cane as their crop to convert to biofuel. The sugar cane produces more energy than does corn. Plus in Brazil, 50% of their auto fuel is from biofuel. In addition, this industry is growing so rapidly that many of their fuel fired electric plants are being built to run on biofuel.

From the article: “Move Over, Gasoline: Here Come Biofuels Clean-burning biofuels, made from plant materials, will power the cars of the future.”, there is some discussion regarding getting this program on track in the United States.

Aggressive action to develop biofuels between now and 2015 would position America to produce, by 2050, the equivalent of more than three times as much oil as we currently import from the Persian Gulf. And if combined with better vehicle efficiency and smart-growth urban planning, biofuels could virtually eliminate our demand for gasoline by 2050.
http://www.nrdc.org/air/transportation/biofuels.asp

The question is: Can we afford another decade of doing so little? Economist will say we can not wait and Scientist looking at issues such as GLOBAL WARMING, are screaming that we can not wait or the damage will be irreversable.
